What is the best book on nutrition?
Is a low carb diet better? How low on carbs should it be? Is fruit good or bad for you? How much protein should we eat? Is organic food always better? Is too much raw food unhealthy? How about dairy? What is the science behind all these contradictory nutritional claims? There are so many controversies about nutrition that it makes my head spin I would like to read a well informed and well researched book. Can you recommend something? please note I think any diet that must be supplemented from a drugstore bottle is flawed. And I am not interested in fat loss, or muscle building, I just want to know what a healthy diet should be
Started going to the gym recently and need help with some exercise/nutrition questions...?
Im a 23 year old female, weighing 202lbs at 5'5 and although Im pretty well proportioned, I carry most of my weight in my stomach. Yes, I know that isn't " healthy" although I don't have high blood pressure or other health issues. My goal is to lose around 50 60lbs and tone up, especially in my stomach area. Well, a few days ago I signed up for the 24 hour fitness close to where I live and although I've gone twice, I would like to figure out a routine that I can do to benefit me the most... So far I've been walking to the gym, which is a little over 2 miles away, doing an additional 10 15 minutes on the treadmill once I get there then 20 reps on a few of the leg machines the first day and today I did the same with my arms. What should I add or change? To go along with that, I know I need to eat healthier but again, I dont know what will benefit me. One of the employees was explaining to me about balancing meals, eating every two hours, eating lots of fiber and protein and no carbs or sugars after 6pm but I still dont know how many carbs, proteins, fibers, etc. that I can and SHOULD eat. I hope I've explained this well, but if not, I will answer any questions you need answered. Thanks in advanced.
What does a daily value mean in nutrition?
I feel embarrassed that i have to ask , but what does a daily value mean? i see it on my nutrition facts panel on my food but never really could interpret what that means
Don't you think MSG should be included in the nutrition facts along with trans and saturated fats?
Msg is usually just with the ingredients and they disguise their name suc as yeast extract or gluten. if it is really that hazardous, shouldn't it be included in the nutrition facts section to let ppl know how much it contains?
Does optimum nutrition make whey protein capsules?
if not, what capsules can i take that will help build muscle?
What does it mean in nutrition information when it says total fat ?
what does it mean in nutrition information when it says total fat 100grams, then you have a breakdowon of fat, for example 60grams mono unsaturated, 30grams poly unsaturarted and 5grams of which saturates. Now that only adds up to 95 gramms What are the other 5 grams of fat and why havnt they been accounted for ? This is really annoying me, your help would be greatly appreciated
Food, serving sizes, nutrition labels?
I'm confused and dumb. I'm sixteen, so. YEAH. Anyway, with food, you get a serving size, you know? And nutrition labels... yeah. The label lists all the crap in the food, is that how much is in one serving of it, then? > >
Are companys hiding trans Fat from nutrition labels ?
Ok 2 tablespoons of peanut butter total fat 16g.Ok total fat means the total amount of trans fat saturated polyunsaturated and mono.so ok peanut butter has 16g total fat,8g of monounsaturated fat,5g polyunsaturated fat,2.5g saturated fat and 0 trans fat.But if you add all the fats it adds up to 15.5 total fat so were is the other .5 fat from.possibly from trans fat?
Does anyone know what two fats can be left off of the nutrition label in the US?
I can't find it in my nutrition book for the life of me. I know it's required to list saturated, trans, polyunsaturated, and monounsaturated. Anyone know the two that can be left off?
Should I supplement a nutrition shake into my diet?
I am a 28 yr old female. I am around 170 and I am 5' 10" . I have recently lost 78 lbs. through diet and exercise. The only downside to that is in the process of dieting I ignorantly cut just about all the fat out of my diet and thus now I have no gallbladder. It gives me a lot of trouble in the sense that no matter what I eat I get diarrhea every time. I do exercise for about an hour 3 4 times a week. I eat healthy foods but my issue is when I eat I have to force myself so I know for a fact that I am not consuming anywhere near the amount of calories I need daily. Since I have lost the weight I would really like to tone my body now but I know that my diet is going to hinder my progress. I was wondering if I could or should start drinking a nutrition shake in order to meet my daily caloric needs.
Can I gain weight with the help of nutrition drinks/shakes such as Ensure?
I'm recovering from an eating disorder. I currently eat approx. 1060 calories a day and I need to gain some 20 lbs. I'm 20 years old, and weigh 80 lbs. I can't afford a nutritionist so I was thinking about adding a protein shake nutrition drink to my diet and trying to eat a little more at every meal. Do you think I will gain weight?

I want those abs I want the V shape and the waist to be like that My abs are OK and I have a very, very, small V shape you can barely see it. I have some fat on my lower belly and I'm willing to go on any diet you throw at me. The problem is, i want to continue to get bigger. Is it possible to keep getting bigger lifting heavy weights while losing some weight to make my abs pop out more? I take protein shakes after my workouts, would that alone be enough to keep getting bigger if I cut my calories down? I want a nutrition plan that would let me lose weight to make my abs look better, AND so I can keep getting bigger at the same time ?Thanks everyone
Sports Nutrition help needed!!?
I am on a boxing team, working out about 5 days a week at high intensity for 2 hours at a time. I need to speak to a nutritionist as I want to know how much protein, carbohydrates, etc. I need in order to stay strong but not gain excessive weight or build anything but lean muscle. Nutrition questions, energy, carbs and calories etcetera.?
I want to become healthy but I have no clue for nutrition. If food has a lot of energy is this a bad thing if you are not burning it off? And how can you tell with sugar, carbs etcetera if its bad for a certain food as in this has a lot of calories because it is bigger.Could someone just explain in general nutrition and how to lose weight and become healthy. What are carbs? What are calories? Good or bad?Do you have to burn more calories than you eat to lose weight?
