Question: Is whole fat milk and whole fat yogurt good for health? what about walnuts and cashew nuts and peanuts?

I am 38 yrs old woman weighing 152 lbs 5'4 "height. I hate skim milk and low- fat yogurt. I also read on this forum somewhere that fat does not produce fat. In fact good fat is a must for good health. So I want to know if instead of consuming low fat milk and yogurt can I eat whole fat milk and yogurt. Also, if walnuts, cashew nuts and peanuts good for health ?? if yes, what qty. can we consume per day? |

Here is the clunker. You can become overweight on healthy foods. All of the items you mention contribute to good health but also contain more calories than the fat free dairy and elimination of nuts in your diet. The secret to weight loss is: Eat fewer calories than your body burns. It is that simple. Now, you have a choice of what to eat but the high calorie items use up your allotment of calories very fast. A couple of handsful of cashews can blow 600 calories of a daily allotment. Here is a formula for calorie counting. This number does not take into account exercise which allows you to add to the number. Take your body weight and multiply it by 11. That is the base number of calories your body will burn a day and maintain weight. More and you gain; less and you lose. Factor in exercise and you can add to the total. Can you be healthy and overweight? Yes. No matter what the doctors say, genetics plays a big factor in health. But weight is also about fitness and appearance so that must be factored into your decision. You can live a long and unhappy life believing you are healthy but not in the best condition you could be in if you worked at it. Diet is sacrifice for health, comfort and appearance. If, when you stand up, you have to lean forward to see your feet, you probably will not be comfortable with your weight. So, get away form the excuses you are giving yourself to eat the tastier foods and ask yourself one question: Am I happy at this weight? If the answer is yes, eat all the healthy food you want. If the answer is no, you have to reduce the number of calories you consume and guess what? Skim milk has all the vitamins of whole milk. It just loses that creamy taste! |
