Question: Do i need a health coach?

I need someone to motivate me to work out, and help with healthy dietary choices, while at the same time working around an 'impairment'. Would anyone at a fitness club be able to help? Good Life? Also budget friendly? BTW this impairment involves the heart and lungs, not a leg or arm. They have no room in my chest to function fully (pectus excavatum). Dr. says I might be able to improve things with cardio, but it's hard on the heart and lungs. They have to work 10 times harder to pump blood and keep oxygen flowing, and it hurts sometimes. If I can't improve I may have to get surgery down the road. |

Hmm.......it depends. If you want to cut down on cost workout-wise, you could get a friend to do things with you like go for walks or play sports (very light cardio), but you also need to make sure that you're not putting yourself in any danger. A personal trainer can monitor your workout so that you don't go too hard & knows how to handle emergencies if they happen, and lots of trainers are certified in Nutrition as well as exercise. |

If you're not already seeing a specialist about your pectus excavatum, I highly recommend that you get a referral from your doctor to go see one. You need to be considering surgery regardless of your current physical fitness level if your case is moderate or severe. If your doctor believes that the condition can be improved by exercise he is sadly misinformed. You may have some improvement in your well being from going to the gym (everybody does) but your condition will not improve one bit. Checkout pectusinfo.org for more info on surgery and for a good community of support. Exercise and going to the gym are great, and yes I certainlymbelieve you'll be able to find q coach to work with your condition. |
