I'm pretty thin (5' 8 " and 130lbs) and within the past few months started exercising more for my health.. I go bike riding, walking, swimming, and do crunches, push- ups and lift weights :D And I eat better too.. I recently bought some beef patties and I didn't realize it had trans fats in it until after I bought it. They're only 300 calories each with low cholesterol and low sodium.. but with 1 gram of trans fat that everyone seems to freak out about. I don't want to waste perfectly good food, but how damaging would these be to my health?

Trans fats are the worst fats you can consume. They clog your arteries, can raise your LDL levels, and lower your HDL levels. However, if you have one patty, it wont do any harm. Just try to avoid trans fats in the future.

It's the processed trans fat that is not good. Naturally occurring fat is good for you. You need a lot of it to be healthy. After having just spend a bunch of time researching this topic by reading and through talking to people "in the know " 99% of what people are told about what is healthy to eat and what is not is completely false. For example, you're counting calories and exercising vigorously in order to be healthy or maybe loose weight. Unfortunately those aren't the main determinants of being fit and healthy. Your health is more directly negatively impacted by foods that adversely affect your hormones. To be more specific it's insulin. Your body needs lots of fat in various forms to be healthy, but when your insulin gets spiked by foods with lots of sugars and starch your body deals with fat differently. The chemically extracted oils and fats used in most households today behave differently in your body than the naturally occurring fats that are in meat and nuts for example. It's sugar and starches (carbs) that will cause unhealthy fat stores to build up in your body.
