Question: I need help with knowing what foods are healthy, how to get a decent balanced diet or some nutrition?

It's complicated really but. Y'know, are simple meals like sausage egg and chips or, beans & chips really good at tea time etc? It's so complicated i've struggled with eating most my life in various different ways @ various different times but now i'm just curious as to how to actually eat healthy. i mean. i.e. 2 slices of toast for breakfast, a simple pre- packed tesco sandwich for lunch, and fish peas and carrots for dinner, and some fruit for snacks like an apple and a banana <- - - would this be any good? i sorta fear food at times, and i know i won't put this into practice for a while but it's gonna be handy to know it now and be ready for it when i do get to working it all out right I like the way Vlad thinks! a hmmmmmmm

I know exactly how you feel. I've studied nutrition for over 40 years and there is simply a lot of misinformation and indoctrination that has gone on in America today. The so called "studies " have skewed the perception of reality to the point where you cannot believe anyone because it is all intertwined in this media marketing propaganda and mixed with bogus studies that all seem to be funded by those with an agenda. Looking at people around the world from our past and present is a good place to start. Dr. Weston A. Price was a dentist that went on a search around the world looking for why cavities were increasing at this alarming rate in the early 1930's. He traveled to 100's of places all over the globe examining primitive people that had not been fed the "modern diet. " He found people everywhere that had NO cavities, good jaw formations, resistant to diseases, like T.B., etc. and that lived well into their 100's. He wrote some books about this and one that is a good one for you to read is called "Nutrition and physical degeneration. " Get the 9th edition of it. The biggest challenge this country faces is that we treat food as a commodity and use price as the value point. That is ridiculous way to view food, but it is what is being used to promote it. The agriculture in America is the worst in the world and is due to chemical fertilizers and insecticides. Food that is grown on fertile soil, rich in minerals can have HIGH BRIX numbers and bugs won't eat it. Chemical fertilized soils have LOW BRIX numbers and bugs are their to clean up the mess. We have been sold a bill of goods and PROFIT is the motivation. Foods you get from the store have 50% less antioxidants in the last 25 years. The mineral content is so low that it is a wonder a person can still walk around after eating the junk. Humans are omnivores and consequently can eat both meat and vegetables. However, plant eating animals are far better at digesting plant foods and if fed the right foods will be healthy and when we eat those animals, we become healthy as well. It's not enough to tell someone to eat more fruits and vegetables these days. Most of that has little food value, unless you can find organic farmers at farmer's markets that care about how they grow their food. My testing has shown that is the best place to purchase fruits and vegetables. Find a good source of GRASS FED animals, chickens for eggs, and RAW DAIRY products. ( a good dairy for example is: OrganicPastures.com For a good start to understand good nutrition, get the book "Nourishing Traditions " by Sally Fallon and Mary G. Enig. Ph.D Take a look at the people in Macau, China and what they eat. They have the longest average life expectancy in the world at 84.4 years as of Feb. 2010. They do NOT eat the traditional Chinese food. EDIT: The vegetarian and vegan lifestyles are NOT the healthiest life styles. India has a life expectancy of 66.1 years and they are primarily vegetarians. Macau, China is 84.4 years and they eat lots of meats, raw dairy, fermented foods, and fresh fruits and vegetables. It takes about 2 years on a vegan diet to start showing the deficiencies and vegetarians a little longer, but many get fatigued easily and over time, the deficiencies creep in. good luck to you

In general, the healthiest foods are the simplest foods. WHOLE foods. Such as fruits, vegetables, grains, etc. Stay away from as many processed foods as you can. When you see long ingredients lists, the longer the ingredient list, the unhealthier it is! There are PLENTY of recipes out there using whole and natural foods. Basically, for every meal, you want to have a source of a whole grain, protein, and vegetable or fruit. As a vegan, I get my source of protein very easily from certain whole grains, and beans and legumes such as black beans, chickpeas, almonds, etc. Its also important to have a source of healthy fat such as olive oil, avocados, flax seed oil, etc. It's important to NOT fear food. Think about it this way: Healthy food is originated from the earth, (fruits, veggies, grains, nuts, seeds, etc.) All things that are originated from the earth is the absolute best thing you can eat. Man has come along and made all these frankenfoods that are processed and created fast food which is loaded with cancer and disease causing chemicals and fats. That is what you do not want. Stay away from the man-made food, stick with natural (organic is the best!) foods from the earth and you will definitely be healthy.

Men should eat what ever they want

Try not to eat too much bread/ carbs as they make you want more sugar and contain lots of fat so will make you gain weight, however a little bread e.g. in the sandwich would be ok, just try to eat brown wholemeal bread instead of white bread
